ESDIN - Metadata and quality guidelines (WP 8)

Our objectives are:

To provide users of reference information harmonized metadata concepts for discovery and data evaluation purposes. Guidelines for the creation of discovery metadata and data evaluation for the data providers of reference information will be developed.
To describe a common approach for data quality of reference information in large and small scales. This will be carried out by developing a quality model based on best practices at the dataproviders in Europe and international standards (ISO 19113, ISO 19114, ISO/TS 19138).

Dear Quality reference group,

ESDIN quality work is now completed and I am pleased to say that I think we have achieved a lot!

We now have

1. INSPIRE compliant quality model that can be used for reference data provision both national and INSPIRE purposes

2. Metadata guidelines for discovery and evaluation

ESDIN WP8 published the final ESDIN Quality Report.

The aim of WP8 has been to provide NMCAs and other spatial data producing organizations with a paradigm and a comprehensive set of guidelines to assist in managing the quality of INSPIRE Annex I data themes, based on international standards and best practices from the NMCAs.

Dear members of the reference group,

WP8 is pleased to deliver the ESDIN Metadata Guidelines.

The ESDIN approach has been to establish set of metadata for ExM products, that are compliant with INSPIRE metadata Implementation Rules on the discovery level, but will also provide additionnal information to enable the user to conduct a proper evaluation of the resources.

This deliverable D8.3 has been conceived in two parts :

New presentation of ESDIN quality progress.

Please find attached the quality presentation at INSPIRE2010 conference in Krakow.

The main progress in the WP8 is as follows:

1. Completed the quality model for INSPIRE Annex I themes administrative units, geographical names, hydrography, transportation networks and cadastral parcels. We will publish these when final deliverable is published (in September)
